Raking Redux

Or, When Will The Leaves Leave?

I know, I know. The leaves are beautiful. And they are, don’t get me wrong. But the raking! And my back! And my arms! Recently while flagrantly airing my gripes in public (at Wickford Diner no less) I was reassured that it wasn’t that bad yet. This was exactly my point. I have already taken six refuse bags to the North Kingstown Recycling Center (NK offers a free composting service to residents). Football just started!

That being said, taking a slow Sunday drive from Route 1A through Route 1 is one of the truly sublime and uniquely New England experiences. The view goes as follows: quaint and mysterious little Village (think Witches of Eastwick), quaint little harbor, beautiful golden trees, ocean view, trees, more trees, a view of a pasture full of cows overlooking the bay and Jamestown and Newport Bridge through a copse of beautiful golden trees, trees, river, farm, trees, Narragansett beach, roadside farm stand, trees, confused people from Connecticut, trees, Ninigret Wildlife Refuge, Swamp Yankees, the unparalleled beauty and grandeur of Watch Hill.

Not bad.

And with my new found dedication to green living I am using only a rake to get the job done. So the excercise is nice.

But still, my back!
