Chowder and Clamcakes
April 21st, 2009It’s time to break out the chowder and clamcakes everyone. The forecast for this weekend calls for weather upwards of 75. I’m sure I speak for everyone when I say that it is about time. What a long, strange winter it was. But, summer is around the corner and in Rhode Island that means the beach. Unlike in Jersey where folks migrate down the shoah en masse, in Rhody we go up to Naahgansitt (disregard the southern location of Narragansett relative to the rest of the state). In this usage, Narragansett often includes the towns of Sowt Kingstinnn, Nawt Kingstinn, Chaalstinn, Richmin, Hopkintinn, and Westuhly. Natives of these parts are known as Swamp Yankees (tread carefully).
When we really want to party, we go da Newpawt. Like Narragansett, any town within driving distance of Newport (driving distance for Rhode Islanders is only like 15 miles) gets lumped in. These include M’illtown, Jamestown, Lil’ Comptinn, Pawtsmith, and Tividen. Round here folks are called Islanduhs.
Grab yer Dels and get you to da beach.
